Puerto Plata on the rise

According to the Deputy Minister for Tourism, Magaly Toribio, a series of measures taken by Minister of Tourism Francisco Javier Garcia aimed at saving Puerto Plata as a tourist destination, appear to be bearing fruit.

Hoy reports that hotels have reported an increase in tourists, mainly from the Canadian market, which Toribio says is thanks to the measures taken by Garcia, including a trip by 300 Transat agents to Puerto Plata, and a publicity campaign in Canada.

According to Toribio the hotels in Puerto Plata say there has been a 21% increase in the number of Canadian tourists and a 100% occupation rate over the last couple of months.

They also hope that the recovery will continue with the construction of the cruise terminal in Maimon, announced last year.
