Gol

Low-fare airline Gol, Brazil’s second largest began selling tickets for its new Santo Domingo-Sao Paulo (Guarulhos) route and to Miami and Orlando on 26 October.

“We observed strong demand from clients flying to the United States, and, with a focus on this market, operations exclusive to the Smiles clients have been very successful,” says Paulo Kakinoff, GOL’s CEO. “Now, our proposal with these regular flights is to offer attractive fares, via Santo Domingo, in the Dominican Republic, where passengers can connect to both destinations, without compromising our low-cost model,” he explains.

The new flights, departing from Sao Paulo/Guarulhos to Orlando and from Rio de Janeiro/Galeao to Miami, will be offered on a daily basis and make one stop in Santo Domingo, where clients will change aircraft depending on their final destination. Both operations will offer comfort and economic class.

As reported in the Brazilian newspaper Valor, the Brazilian airline has plans to set up a hub in Santo Domingo for operating flights to other locations in North America. Kakinoff told Valor that Gol would also fly its passengers to Delta’s hub in Atlanta or offer Gol passengers connections on Delta flights out of Santo Domingo to other international locations.

Gol, which sold a 3% stake in itself to Delta Air Lines (DAL) at the end of last year, plans to make the most of that partnership in overseas flights, Gol Chief Executive Paulo Kakinoff told Valor.
