Punta Cana is busiest airport

According to data from the Civil Aviation Board (IDAC), the Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) received 4,836,444 passengers in 2012, 47% of all air arrivals in the country, making it the busiest of all of the airports.

In second place was Las Americas International Airport (SDQ) with 3,163,996 passengers, for 31%. Santiago’s Cibao International Airport (STI) with 1,082,087 arrivals was third in numbers of passengers, with 11%.

The Puerto Plata International Airport received 760,946 arrivals or 8%.

Other points of entry were: La Romana (LRM), 221,175, 2%; Samana’s El Catey International Airport (AZS) with 112,929 arrivals for 1% and La Isabela International Airport (JBQ) with 39,419 arrivals, less than half a percentage point.
