The Dominican Republic has 26 golf courses in operation, and six of them have holes right on the coast. Of the coastal courses, Casa de Campo’s Teeth of the Dog was the first to be right on the water. In Punta Cana, Corales and La Cana at Puntacana Resort & Club challenge golfers to get right shots over the Caribbean Sea. At nearby Punta Espada, in Cap Cana, it’s the wind that interacts with the sea requiring exacting stroke play but rewarding this with extraordinary views. In Puerto Plata, Playa Dorada’s 7th hole offers gorgeous views of the Altantic Ocean seen from under the almond trees. To the east, the Playa Grande course, winds along the coastline with its amazing open vistas, cliff-side fairways. At this golf course, nine holes are closed for renovations and are expected to reopen by the second half of 2014.
