In response to public and media criticism of the participation of a Ku Klux Klan costumed-group in the National Carnival Parade on Sunday, 3 March, the Ministry of Culture says they did so in the history category. Photos of the parade were published in 7dias.com.do with commentary that highlighted the negative connotations of the KKK. The Ministry explained that they were allowed to do so in the same way groups have represented aspects of the Trujillo dictatorship and other bleak moments in history.
