Working to save the Ozama and Isabela Rivers

The Commonwealth of Greater Santo Domingo, the Municipality of Santo Domingo East, the Ministry of Environment and other institutions are working on the recovery of the La Lechuga gully, to the south of Cachon de la Rubia in Santo Domingo East as part of the plan to recover the Ozama and Isabela rivers.

Commonwealth director Onofre Rojas said that the recovery of La Lechuga is part of a master plan to environmentally rescue the polluted rivers. There is the possibility that the French Development Agency will contribute EUR500,000 toward designing the recovery plan. The Municipality is providing a truck to collect garbage to ensure the upkeep. The Dominican Red Cross, Ciudad Alternativa and other entities are also taking part.
