Expanding PUJ International Airport

To prepare for increased aviation capacity demand, the Punta Cana Group announced that a new terminal is being designed with capacity to receive the largest passenger airliner in the world, the double-deck Airbus A380. The A380 has capacity for 525 passengers when fitted for first class, business and economy seating, or for 853 people in an all-economy class configuration.

The new terminal at Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) will have seven doors and will have capacity to receive up to 26 airplanes simultaneously. The new terminal will be air-conditioned and will offer in-door deplaning.

In an interview with El Dia, Frank Rainieri, CEO of Punta Cana Group, explained that the Punta Cana International Airport is the 9th largest in travel volume in Latin America. In 2013 it moved five million passengers, including 2.5 million non-residents. He forecast growth should be over 10% a month in 2014. 60% of all travelers flying to the Dominican Republic arrive via the Punta Cana International Airport.
