Buckle up or face a fine

The director of the Metropolitan Transport Authority (AMET) Brigadier General Pablo Antonio Pujols called on the public today, Friday 22 August 2014, to use their seatbelts and to stop talking on cell phones when driving on the streets and highways of the country.

Over the last 24 hours AMET agents have imposed fines on 70 drivers who were found in flagrant violation of the traffic laws, while 26 citizens were fined for riding on motorcycles without helmets.

General Pujols told El Nuevo Diario that AMET’s mission is not to fine citizens but to prevent traffic accidents and regrettable deaths because of careless driving. He was especially critical of drivers who text while driving.
