Former President Leonel Fernandez is travelling to Europe and the United States over the next two weeks.
In Paris, he will attend meetings at the political sciences institute, Sciences Po and the Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme (FMSH).
In Austria, he will meet with President of Austria Heinz Fischer. He is booked to give a lecture at the 11th International Meeting of the Association of Latin American and Caribbean Historians (Adhilac) that will commemorate the Bicentenary of the Congress of Vienna from 18-22 September 2014 at the University of Vienna. The Congress of Vienna was the conference of ambassadors of European states chaired by Austrian statesman Klemens von Metternich, held in Vienna from September 1814 to June 1815 to discuss the reorganization of the chaos in Europe in the aftermath of the Napoleonic Wars. The Congress defined the future boundaries of Europe, which still impact the continent today. The Congress was held just days before the Battle of Waterloo.
In Vienna, Fernandez will sign a cooperation agreement between his Global Foundation for Development (Funglode) and the University of Vienna law school. He will also hold working meetings at the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (Unido) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
He will travel on to New York to take part in a higher education forum and will be guest of honor at the ceremony of the Clinton Global Citizen Awards (21-24 September) that honors outstanding individuals for their extraordinary commitments and work to strengthen communities around the world. He will also visit Massachusetts and New Jersey.
