European donors to discuss DR-Haiti talks

The European Union has announced that international organizations will be meeting on 1 and 2 December 2014 to discuss ways of improving their support for the high-level talks between Haiti and the DR that began on 7 January 2014 in the DR. The European Union ambassador in the country, Alberto Navarro, said that the ambassadors of Spain, France, United Kingdom, Italy, Germany and the Netherlands have been convened. Representatives from the World Bank, Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Organization of American States have also been invited.

Navarro said that the European Union is the largest donor to bi-national cooperation initiatives between the two countries. “That is why we are organizing a meeting of European donors here in Santo Domingo to see how we can support the high-level talks,” he said, as reported in Diario Libre.

He also announced the start of a bi-national program, Green Border (Frontera Verde) in the border province of Elias Pina. The ambassador was speaking to the press yesterday, Monday 17 November 2014 after signing an agreement to support the Chamber of Accounts.
