Radhames Jimenez, secretary for legal affairs of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), accused the government of seeking to levy an institutional coup at the Supreme Court of Justice. As reported by CDN, Jimenez said the plan would set back the achievements in justice and that was why Chief Justice Jorge Subero Isa warned he could resign. “From the government, they are airing the possibility of convening the National Council of the Magistrate to retire four Supreme Court justices,” he said. The plan, according to him, is to replace them with four lawyers with ties to the PPH faction of the PRD. The PLD urged Dominican society to defend the autonomy of the Supreme Court of Justice.
