PRD pre-candidates Milagros Ortiz Bosch and Rafael “Fello” Subervi Bonilla will not agree to be running mates of President Hipolito Mejia, they said yesterday. For her part, Ortiz declared “there was no legal instrument” that would lead her to be proclaimed a Presidential candidate at this Sunday’s PRD convention, in which President Hipolito Mejia’s candidacy is due to be officially validated. Proyecto Presidencial Hipolito (PPH) coordinator Eligio Jaquez had suggested the pre-candidates Ortiz, Subervi and Enmanuel Esquea Guerrero participate in this weekend’s event to announce the candidacy of Hipolito Mejia, even though the law to allow multiple candidacies, the Ley de Lemas, has not yet been approved by Congress. For his part, Subervi said he was “saddened” by the situation and criticized former President Salvador Jorge Blanco’s role in the convention. He said that Jorge Blanco would never succeed in uniting the PRD. The pre-candidates are scheduled to meet with the President later today.
