Bienvenido Alvarez Vega of Hoy newspaper writes today about the lack of proposals being offered by the political candidates in the Presidential election campaign underway since 20 January. He feels that now more than ever it would be interesting to know what those who aspire to be the next chief of state plan to do with an economy left in shambles by this administration, how they would put a stop to the binge on printing money not backed by hard-currency reserves, what plans they have to stop the efforts to decrease the limits of the national parks every two or three months, how to best reactivate the economy and what policies would be put in place to contain Haitian immigration. Vega says that a debate of ideas, proposals and measures to be taken is necessary. “Each candidate should clearly explain what model of nation they have in his mind and how they plan to achieve it: because we do not want another campaign without concrete and specific proposals,” he writes.
