Hatuey’s formula

While the divided PRD party remains in a critical state, Hatuey Decamps himself has spoken of a formula for achieving party unity. The idea is for the anti re-election candidates to stand together against President Hipolito Mejia with one single candidate as representative. As the guest speaker at a Hoy newspaper business lunch yesterday, the former PRD president said that Mejia’s re-election campaign was “a totally corrupt process, in which the state’s resources have been used to promote a re-election that goes against all opinion polls.” He described the proposed Ley de Lemas as “an anachronism, as well as a threat to the imminent elections.. Decamps pointed out that one of the countries that had used the same electoral model, Uruguay, was ruled by the same party for 90 consecutive years. The ejected PRD president said that he believed that Rafael “Fello” Subervi Bonilla and Milagros Ortiz Bosch had been misled by President Hipolito Mejia.
