CIA advises DR to admit 37 Haitian refugees

Armed Forces Minister Lt. General Jose Miguel Soto Jimenez revealed to reporters that the Dominican Army turned over 37 Haitian refugees for processing and repatriation. These are the same 37 who are reportedly returning to Haiti to defend Port-au-Prince. These men crossed the border at different points, from Dajabon to near Elias Pina. According to reporter Victor Manana of the Listin Diario, the CIA is warning that the next clashes between the rebel forces and government sympathizers could become especially violent, since the two groups “are equally disposed to violence.” CIA director George Tenet said that a continuing worry is the “possibility that the violence escalates and produces a human disaster or a massive migration.”
