Now is the time of the year when Major League Baseball join their teams as they battle to make the playoffs and to be the winning team that will play in the Caribbean Series. The Caribbean Series matches Dominican, Venezuelan, Puerto Rican, Mexican and probably Cuban teams. This year the event is set to take place in San Juan, Puerto Rico from 2 to 8 February.
This year, second baseman Robinson Cano has announced he got clearance from the Seattle Mariners to play a limited number of winter ball games for the Estrellas Orientales from San Pedro de Macoris. The Estrellas are battling the Gigantes del Cibao from San Francisco de Macoris, in a series that is being dubbed “the battle of the Macorises.”
In the first season of a US$240 million, 10-year contract, Cano batted .314 with 14 homers and 82 RBIs.
The round robin series ends on Saturday, 17 January 2015, by when the playoffs teams will have been decided.
