Santo Domingo cruise ship tourism increases 48% in 2014

Tourism from cruise ships promises to become the principal ally of tourist growth projected for the coming years in Santo Domingo, which forms part of the strategy for achieving President Danilo Medina’s target of 10 million tourists to the Dominican Republic within a decade. In 2014 Sans Souci Port received 23,556 more cruise ship tourists than in 2013, a 48% increase. According to projections by executives of the Sans Souci Tourist Investment Group, the port expects to receive 84,700 cruise ship passengers this year.
