The Dominican Republic’s scenic Samana peninsula has been chosen as one of the Top Ozy 25 vacation destinations for the first week of April. Reporter Sharon Sims acknowledges that most people who think of the DR think of Punta Cana or La Romana, before advising travelers who are not into all-inclusive resort vacations and golf to take a look at what she describes as “a strange little mutant crab claw, the Samana Peninsula. “Samana is a place where horses roam the beaches and fish are sold out of truck beds, where dirt roads lead past fruit stands to deserted turquoise waters, where the smoke of grilled street meat billows on lazy Saturday nights,” she writes. “It’s easy to make friends in a place like this, and it’s easy to not leave. And that’s not even mentioning the spectacular whale watching or the diving”.
