The Jaragua Renaissance Santo Domingo is scheduled to reopen for business in June. The hotel booking system is taking reservations online from 15 June 2015.
Hotel Jaragua Renaissance marketing and sales manager Jose Castillo said that the US$42 million remodeling program that the hotel is undergoing will improve its facilities with a view to attracting the conventions and congresses market.
Marriott operates three hotels in Santo Domingo – the Jaragua, the JW Marriott and the Courtyard Marriott. Santo Domingo also has a range of other accommodation options including the remodeled Santo Domingo Sheraton and the brand new Embassy Suites hotel.
In an interview with El Dinero, Castillo said: “Santo Domingo cannot claim to be like Punta Cana. But we have to show tourists that while we are not a sun and sand destination, we are a cultural destination.” He praised the Colonial City restoration program.
The Jaragua hotel was originally built in 1942, but the original building was demolished and the new Jaragua Renaissance was built on the site, opening in 1989. This is the hotel’s first major renovation.
