Cabarete is preparing to host the concert “Jazz for Peace” this Thursday, 30 April, International Jazz Day. The event has the support of the United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organization (Unesco) and is part of commemorations for International Jazz Day.
FeduJazz, which organizes the Dominican Republic Jazz Festival in Puerto Plata every year, will be presenting a program with the strings musicians of Casa de Arte in Sosua and the 50-student youth band “Escuela Libre Monte de la Jagua” from Moca. They will be playing free mini-concerts in Cabarete in the heart of the barrios of El Callejon de la Loma at 3pm and La Cienaga at 4pm. The musicians are between the ages of 11 and 17.
Maria Elena Gratereaux, who is coordinating the Cabarete International Jazz Day events, said that a jazz concert by Maestro Rafaelito Mirabal and Sistema Temperado has also been booked at the Sea Horse Ranch Beach Club. A fashion show will also take place, featuring designs by Geannina Azar.
The program will raise funds to buy musical instruments for 51 children. Puerto Plata chef Rafael Vasquez will be providing the snacks and there will be an auction of works by Puerto Plata artist Adolfo Faringthon as part of the event.
