The Ministry of Public Works began last week the repair of the mountain road that links the communities of Yasica Arriba and Pedro Garcia in Puerto Plata with Gurabo in Santiago. The panoramic mountain road is known as the “Carretera Turistica”. Several areas of the road have been affected by landslides.
The road is being repaired as part of general works to prepare for increased tourism with the arrival of a large number of cruise ships programmed as of October 2015 to the Carnival Cruise Amber Cove new port in Maimon.
The Ministry of Public Works is also expanding the Maimon-Puerto Plata highway to facilitate tourist traffic to Puerto Plata.
