Campaigning on taxpayers money

Manuel Jimenez, who covers the Presidential beat for Hoy newspaper, points out today the difficulties in differentiating between political campaigning and official acts of duty. Jimenez says in his column “En el Palacio” that when President Mejia attends an inauguration of public works, he does so accompanied by a long caravan of government officers in their luxury vehicles and whose expenses for the day are being covered by taxpayers’ money. He said that a government official recognized that it is “difficult, if not impossible” to separate one thing from the other.
