Political parties have spent RD$159 million in their publicity efforts so far, El Caribe reported on Sunday. One minority party, the PRI, has already spent RD$2 million more than it will receive from the Central Electoral Board (JCE). Entering the final months of the campaign, the parties have spent 38.5% of the funding to be doled out by the JCE. This week the electoral board will disburse RD$412 million more to the political parties vying for the Presidential plum on 16 May. According to the report, the ruling PRD has spent RD$73 million on the ?pre-campaign,? representing more than 50% of their JCE allotment. While Eduardo Estrella is the single-most publicized candidate on television, the PRD has outspent each of its rivals by nearly a margin of nearly 2:1. The PRD has spent RD$73.45 million so far, the PLD has spent RD$37.8 million and the PRSC has spent RD$38.1 million. On television spots alone, the PRD has spent RD$56.3 million versus RD$35 million for the PRSC and RD$31.9 million for the PLD. Radio ads were dominated by the PRD, however, on which spots they bested their adversaries by a 4:1 margin. Radio advertising accounted for RD$12 million of the PRD?s expenditures, RD$3 million from the PLD and RD$2.1 million from the PRSC.
