Peynado stands alone

Former Vice-President Jacinto Peynado told the press he will not support the PRSC members? coalition that announced an alliance to back the candidacy of former President Leonel Fernandez, nor will he support Eduardo Estrella, the officially recognized PRSC candidate, either. As reported in Hoy newspaper, Peynado said the PRSC dissident coalition he had formed with party leaders Carlos Morales Troncoso, Leonardo Matos Berrido and Donald Reid Cabral, for his part was ?dissolved.? He said that he respects their decision to support the PLD candidate, but considered this too risky when that political organization has not yet announced its plans or government program.

He said that from now on, he would speak for himself only. Peynado has been in Miami for several months, recovering from an undisclosed health problem. As reported in Hoy newspaper, he expects to return in April and said he would not be isolated from the election process.
