Dominican and Mexican apparel exports to the US are losing ground to Asian countries, according to the Major Shippers Report. The Listin Diario?s economy section highlights an interview with Jeannette Dominguez, executive director of the National Council of Export Free Zones (CNZFE), who confirmed that the DR has lost out to manufacturers in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Philippines and Bangladesh, which offer lower costs. The Asian countries have attracted production orders that years back would have been assuredly assembled in Central America and the Caribbean. Among regional countries, Honduras is the leading exporter of several volume-production lines.
