Dominguez Brito: Dican officers were repeat offenders

Attorney General Francisco Dominguez Brito has confirmed that the 1,200 kilos of drugs reported missing from the Police Anti-Drug agency (Dican) was just part of what had become routine for some officers and prosecutors, according to findings of the commission that is looking into the case. Dominguez Brito says that the Dican agents were repeat offenders in cases of drugs seized from drug traffickers. Dominguez Brito was interviewed by El Dia on the Channel 11 news show. He said that the investigation is not limited to policemen assigned to Dican, and that others outside the force who may be involved were also being investigated.

“Mostly we are concentrated on the network and its way of operating,” he told the press. He said they do not know what amount of drugs is involved, but are now aware of several cases.

On 31 December 2015, Police chief Major General Manuel Castro Castillo stated that the case was more serious than originally reported. As prosecutors were involved, Castro asked the Attorney General Office to lead the investigations. The case hit the headlines after drugs were seized from a house in Ensanche Isabelita in Santo Domingo on 27 September 2014 and were not reported.
