Pedro Martinez returns to DR after Hall of Fame induction

The recent Baseball Hall of Fame inductee, Pedro Martinez will return to the DR on Saturday, 10 January 2015, as announced by Tourism Minister Francisco Javier Garcia. The star baseball player is scheduled to arrive at Las Americas International Airport at 1:30pm. Garcia originally said that Martinez would return on Thursday 8 January 2015, the day after the Hall of Fame vote.

As reported, as part of his welcome is a caravan that will accompany him triumphantly into Santo Domingo with a stop at the Parque Eugenio Maria de Hostos on the Malecon where several musical groups will play in his honor. The caravan will then continue on to his hometown community, Manoguayabo, in northern Santo Domingo. Bands will also be playing as people in Manoguayabo celebrate the new win of their hometown champ.

The Dominican Professional Baseball League announced that as of Thursday, TV shows and giant screens at the Julian Javier (San Francisco de Macoris), Tetelo Vargas (San Pedro de Macoris) and Francisco Micheli (La Romana) ballparks would be showing documentaries and videos of the life of Martinez in baseball.

Martinez follows in the footsteps of Juan Marichal, the only other Dominican baseball player to make it to the Hall of Fame, and who was inducted in 1983.
