President Danilo Medina has formally received 129 Toyota hybrid cars from Japan. The vehicles will be assigned to 20 ministries and central government offices.
During a ceremony held on Friday, 9 January 2015, Japanese Ambassador Takashi Fuchigami said that Japan seeks to contribute to energy and environment. He highlighted the close relationship between the two countries, which spans more than 80 years. “The Dominican Republic is one of the countries that is setting its sights on transforming its energy policies and introducing new technology that makes use of renewable energy and its rational use,” said the diplomat, as reported by Noticias SIN.
Speaking on behalf of the Dominican government, Minister of Economy, Planning and Development Temistocles Montas expressed his appreciation for the donation.
The vehicles, valued at US$5 million, include Toyota Camry, Prius and Prius C models.
