Assassination threat against President Medina

The Puerto Rico Police Department is investigating a threat against the life of President Danilo Medina during his visit the island yesterday Tuesday, 13 January 2015.

According to a police spokesperson, an anonymous phone call was made to the Puerto Rican Police at 9:40am. The caller, described as a woman speaking with a Dominican accent and using swear words, said that three men would stage an attack on Medina during his stay in Puerto Rico.

Police said that they took the threat seriously but did not give more details.

Once the President was safely back in the DR, local media commented that the problem was that President Medina had traveled on Tuesday the 13th. The Spanish and Latin American saying “neither travel nor get married on that day” (“Ni te cases, ni te embarques”), is a superstition roughly equivalent to Friday the 13th.
