Central Electoral Board (JCE) president Roberto Rosario says that from next week they will expand facilities for the issuing of the new identity cards (cedulas) to people with health issues, the elderly, or anyone unable to visit an Identity Card Issuing Center for a particular reason.
He said that health centers and homes for the elderly would be prioritized for the JCE to visit.
The Health and Labor Risks Superintendent (Sisalril) has also instructed medical providers (ARS) and labor risk managers (ARL) to authorize their affiliates to continue to accept the old cedula as identification for medical service plans.
They recalled that under articles 60 and 61 of the Constitution, access to social security and healthcare are fundamental rights and the state is obliged to guarantee them and under no circumstances could they deny access to their affiliates.
