The United States government will donate an additional US$18.4 million to the already agreed upon US$189.9 million in the five-year cooperation plan (2014-2018).
The sum is contained in a new amendment to the cooperation agreement between both countries via the United States Development Agency (USAID), announced yesterday, Tuesday 13 January 2015 from the Presidential Palace.
The Minister of Economy, Planning and Development, Temistocles Montas, United States Ambassador James W. Brewster and the Director of USAID, Alexandria L. Panejal signed the new agreement.
The funds will be spent on crime prevention, specifically working with young people in high-risk areas such as the poorest urban areas, and will also be used to improve education, work on climate change and treatment of HIV and AIDS.
