If it gets too loud, call 911

As of tomorrow, Friday 15 January 2015, the 911 Emergency Line will be available for Santo Domingo (National District) residents who are affected by noise pollution. Press advertisements published today point out that residential areas are low-noise areas, while office, school and green areas are very low-noise areas. Normal noise levels are allowed in industrial areas. The law establishes lower noise levels in all areas from 9pm to 7am.

The 911 service says that the Police will be sent to the area where noise is a problem. It adds that if the sound level is too high, it will have to be lowered. The consequences of not doing this are the confiscation of speakers and music equipment, shutdown of the installations, and fines between half a minimum wage and 3,000 minimum wages.

Noise pollution has become a health problem in the Dominican Republic.
