The lack of government control over local transport routes was again apparent yesterday, Wednesday 14 January 2015 when a man was killed and three others were injured after being shot in a violent clash on Av. Paris at the intersection with Av. Duarte in Santo Domingo. Hoy newspaper reports that the clash over ownership of the route erupted between two transport associations, Fenatrapeo and Unatrafis.

The Police say that 34-year old Mateo Nieve de Jesus died of bullet wounds. The injured drivers were named as 38-year old Ramon Antonio Pena Beltre, 36-year old Eddy Francisco Sanchez and 41-year old Manuel Emilio Romero, who were hospitalized.
The preliminary Police report says that the deceased and the injured were parked awaiting passengers at the corner street when their attackers shot at them over differences about the right to transport passengers on the route.
