Italian businessman Armando Cassiati has been cleared to return to the Dominican Republic. The Superior Administrative Tribunal, which oversees decisions made by government bodies, overturned the measure that led to his departure on 11 October 2014 when his residence permit was revoked by the Migration Department following investigations by the Attorney General Office.
As reported in Puerto Plata Digital website, Cassiati has investments of upwards of RD$50 million in the country and is known to have sponsored several local political campaigns during the two decades he has lived in Sosua. The court also overturned a ban on him entering Dominican territory, accepting Cassiati’s lawyers’ appeal against the Migration Department’s action. Cassiati is known as the owner several nightspots and entertainment businesses, as well as a TV station in Sosua. According to reports, he was living in Miami, Florida while the appeal was heard.
