Twelve Dominicans have been detained and an unknown number have disappeared after a nine-meter long boat sunk off Camuy beach on the northwest coast of Puerto Rico.
United States Customs spokesman Jeffrey Quinones said that the boat sank on Friday, 30 January 2015 and the rescue operation went on for several hours. Some people are still missing. Those who were arrested and taken into custody say that there were around ten more people on the boat.
Quinones said that they do not know if the people who are missing have died, or if they managed to reach the shore and are currently in Puerto Rico.
