If the presidential election were to take place today, former President Leonel Fernandez would receive enough votes to win in a first round, according to the latest Asisa Research poll. The survey found that Fernandez would receive 55.9% of the vote, Hipolito Mejia would receive 16.5%, and Miguel Vargas of the PRD 8.3%. 16.8% says they are undecided. In the same poll carried out in October 2014, Fernandez received 59.4% of the vote, Hipolito Mejia 16.2% and Miguel Vargas of the PRD 6.2%.
In a second scenario, if Fernandez ran against Luis Abinader of the PRM, the results would be Fernandez 53.8%, Abinader 17.4%, Vargas of the PRD 9.9% and the PRSC 1.6%.
The poll showed that Miguel Vargas has the highest rejection rate with 53.8%, followed by Hipolito Mejia with 46.9%, and Leonel Fernandez with 27.4%.
The poll was carried out from 29-31 January and 1,512 eligible voters were polled. Asisa director Lilian Pagan says it was financed by businesspeople, but would not divulge their names.
