According to results of the 24-27 January 2015 Gallup poll published in Hoy newspaper, 44.8% of the 1,200 eligible voters polled understand that Luis Abinader should be the presidential candidate for the PRM in the May 2016 election. Abinader was the vice president candidate when Hipolito Mejia ran for President in 2012 and lost to Danilo Medina.
The percentage increases to 69% among those who said they are PRM voters. 28% favor Hipolito Mejia being the candidate for the PRM.
Likewise, 47% of those who would vote for the PRD consider that Abinader should be the candidate. Of these 34% feel the same.
The PRM is a dissident party that split from the PRD last year.
