El Caribe headlines the news that troops from the Dominican Republic were caught in a firefight yesterday, after being assaulted with rocket and mortar fire from a nearby hospital building. The Dominican troops, as part of the Fuerza Tarea Quisqueya (FTQ II), attacked the building, killing at least one of the aggressors, according to the story in Hoy. The Dominican troops suffered no casualties, according to Major General Carlos Cuervo, the director of education for the Armed Forces and who maintains contact with Colonel Pedro Hurtado Cabreja, the commander of the FTQ II battalion. The Dominican troops are stationed in Daiwaniya. According to Colonel Hurtado, the local troops were under RPG and mortar fire coming from the hospital building located behind the Santo Domingo Base. The soldiers carried out a ?clean-up operation,? which resulted in at least one dead Iraqi civilian and an unknown number of wounded. There is ongoing sporadic fire within the area assigned to the FTQ II. Over the past week the Dominican base has come under fire on at least eight occasions.
