President Danilo Medina visited the Customs Agency yesterday, Wednesday 18 February 2015, for the inauguration of a new scientific laboratory that will be used to analyze the content of products entering and departing the country.
In his inaugural speech, Customs director Fernando Fernandez said it was a step forward to modernize the service and positively contribute to transparency in commerce.
The lab cost RD$155.2 million.
Manuel Corripio, the supplier of the lab, said that it would contribute to fair trade, benefiting traders, the government and consumers.
Administrative Minister of the Presidency Jose Ramon Peralta was also present at the event.
