The mayor of the municipal district of El Cedro, in Miches, Gabriel Nunez Cedeno, was shot in the mouth yesterday evening, Monday 23 February 2015, during an armed robbery by four men who were travelling on two motorbikes on the Duarte Bridge. Police suspect that the motive of the attack was to steal his smart phone.
Nunez, who is a member of the PLD, was taken to hospital where he is said to be conscious.
The incident happened at 7pm when he was headed to Miches in his vehicle and was stopped by the men on the motorcycles who had apparently seen his smart phone in the car.
One pulled out a gun and demanded he hand over the phone. His companion then took the phone and when the Mayor tried to grab it back, he was shot.
