Too many deaths

Rear Admiral Radhames Lora Salcedo says it is alarming that 20 of the 63 people who died over the Holy Week four-day long weekend were children. Lora Salcedo attributed to parental negligence that most of the dead children had drowned. 15 of these were under 15 years old. Others died in traffic accidents. Lora Salcedo explained that of the total number of fatalities, 36 were caused by traffic accidents, 4 by gunshot wounds, 21 drowned, one in a brawl and another died of alcohol intoxication. Furthermore, in analyzing the tragic toll of the Thursday-to-Sunday holiday, he said there were 1,216 people injured, which is double the amount of last year. Lora Salcedo said that in 2003, there were 25 deaths during the Easter celebrations.
