Pilot killed after cropduster crashes into mountain

Cropduster pilot Arraldo (Aldo) Amaro Joa was killed when his Piper Pawnee (registration HI822) crashed in the Valle del Tetero of the Cordillera Central, some 6,000 feet above sea level yesterday, Tuesday 3 March 2015. Amaro was on assignment for the Fumigaciones Aereas del Caribe, owner of the plane and had been reported missing.

As reported, Amaro took off at 10:10am from Azua to Boca de Mao, Valverde, in the northwest and never arrived at his destination. The search finally revealed the tragic ending.

As reported in El Caribe, Amaro was known as an experienced pilot with more than 10,000 flight hours.

In a press release, the Dominican Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC) said the body and plane were located at around 5pm yesterday. Search brigades that found the body reported the pilot was found in his seat with his seat belt fastened.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the IDAC Accident Investigating Commission (CIAA).
