19% more tourists have used their credit cards in the country, compared to an increase of 13% of Dominican credit card holders, says Eduardo del Orbe, executive vice president of CardNet, which handles Visa and Mastercard credit card transactions in the DR, about 82% of the total credit card volume. He estimated that some RD$195 billion was transacted to local businesses in 2014. This was up 14.6% in 2014 compared to 2013. Del Orbe said that three million people in the DR have debit cards and another two million have credit cards.
