The National Drug Control Agency has arrested 58-year old Brigida Mercedes Sosa accused of trafficking in cocaine. She arrived on an Inselair flight from St. Maarten last week and was arrested upon arrival at Las Americas International Airport. She was taken to the Armed Forces Central Hospital in Santo Domingo where she later expelled the drugs. In October 2004, Mercedes Sosa was arrested when trying to leave the country via the Puerto Plata airport with almost a kilo of cocaine in her stomach. She was sentenced to two years in jail but was released earlier for health reasons. She was sent to pre-trial detention for three months on Monday 9 March 2015.
