DA lambasts Police and Military on crime

In an exceedingly frank statement, the District Attorney of the National District, Yeni Berenice Reynoso, has expressed her concern at the involvement of military or police personnel in around 90% of organized crime cases. “In most cases of large-scale drug trafficking, killings for hire, organized crime, police and military agents are involved,” said the National District prosecutor.

Speaking yesterday, Wednesday 18 March 2015, she said that she has been watching this situation with concern for over a year. Reynoso suggested that it is a situation that requires intervention at a higher level than the Justice Department.

“If, from the Justice Department we have said that it is very alarming, very worrisome that the people with whom one is investigating every day are the same ones involved in the crime that they are meant to be investigating,” she commented.

The prosecutor said that criminality requires a restructured strategic planning in order to fight it, not just reacting after the incidents happen. She said that to attribute criminality to a single factor is a mistake, because diverse causes have come together.
