Wojciech Gil could get only seven years for pedophilia

Since the case was first denounced by TV investigative journalists in the Dominican Republic, Roman Catholic priest Alberto Gil (Wojciech Gil) had maintained his innocence of charges of pedophilia in the parish of Juncalito, in the mountains of Santiago province. The Polish priest returned to his home country after El Caribe newspaper reported on the case in 2013, along with shows aired by TV investigative journalists who exposed his case along with that of the Vatican nuncio, former Archbishop Josef Wesolowski, also from Poland, who also left the country abruptly due to the press coverage. The Vatican has decided to deal with Wesolowski who was reduced to lay status but has not yet been legally penalized for similar charges.

Dominican prosecutors passed on the Wojciech Gil case to the Polish authorities. According to reports in the Polish media on 20 March 2015, he could get a reduced sentence of seven years out of a possible 15 as he has decided to plead guilty. The case is scheduled to continue in Warsaw on Wednesday, 25 March 2015.

The hearings are taking place behind closed doors, with no access given to journalists.

As reported, in Poland, the priest is charged with committing 10 crimes, eight of which relate to the sexual abuse of eight boys under the age of 15. Two acts were allegedly committed in 2000-2001 in Poland, the others during his term at the Juncalito parish from 2009-2013. He is also charged of possession of child pornography and illegal possession of firearms
