Business sector sees good prospects for economy

The Dominican business sector maintains an optimistic outlook on the behavior of the country’s economy for the next 12 months. According to Deloitte’s Fifth Addition of the Business Barometer, 42.3% of those surveyed are confident that the situation will improve.

Businesspeople consider the situation to be positive, according to the findings of a study presented yesterday, Sunday 29 March 2015, by economists Jose Luis de Ramon and Nassim Alemany. The results of these two and many other points covered reflect the opinion of 77 high-ranking business executives in the Dominican Republic with yearly billings over US$10 million according to the latest fiscal exercise. The companies that took part in the survey conducted between mid-October and November 2014, are financial services, mass consumer goods, manufacturing, energy, natural resources, health-related businesses, logistics, shipping and ports, technology, media and other services. In detail 42% of the business community believes that the economic situation will improve over the next 12 months, 39.7% thinks that it will continue as it is and 18% says it will get worse. According to El Caribe 46.8% of businesspeople surveyed think that there had not been much change in unemployment during the past year while 36.4% said they felt it had gotten worse and only 16.8% said they felt that unemployment had improved.
