Let ambulances pass, but don’t speed with them

Minister of the Presidency Gustavo Montalvo has called on Greater Santo Domingo residents to be more cooperative with the 911 Emergency System ambulances. He said that instead of letting ambulances pass, drivers follow them in order to speed in their wake, sometimes crossing on red. He called for improved driver education and increased responsibility to ensure that when they hear a siren, drivers take appropriate action to let the ambulance pass, without breaking any traffic laws in the process. He said that AMET has instructions to apply the law against drivers who line up behind ambulances to speed.

In a press conference on Saturday, 4 April 2015 to report on Easter Week operations, Montalvo said that an average number of emergencies were reported over the Easter Week vacation.
