Attorney General meets with US ambassador

The United States Ambassador in the Dominican Republic, James W. Brewster, met with Attorney General Francisco Dominguez Brito in his office yesterday, Tuesday 7 April 2015. They discussed matters of national interest including the fight against corruption, and judicial processes in cases of money laundering, drug dealing and contract killings, as reported in Listin Diario.

The meeting took place a day after the Public Prosecution office issued two appeals against the Judicial Branch decisions not to prosecute Senator Felix Bautista or the mayor of San Francisco de Macoris, Felix Rodriguez, both accused of administrative corruption.

This was the US ambassador’s third visit to the Attorney General’s office to discuss administrative corruption. The first was in November 2014 and the second in January this year.

During the first visit, Brewster said that he was appalled by the increase in organized crime and domestic violence in the country but he highlighted the work that Dominguez Brito was doing to fight organized crime and crime in general.

Following yesterday’s meeting, Brewster said that the Attorney General had developed an extraordinary relationship with the United States and he felt very fortunate to be working with him and his team to place many criminals behind bars.
