Mastermind in Victoriano Santos murder case?

The widow of Victoriano Santos, the deputy Minister of Energy of Mines who was murdered together with his son at their family home, has asked Attorney General Francisco Dominguez Brito to find out whether a mastermind was behind the killings.

Zoila Maria Gutierrez said that the prosecutors should reveal the name of the politician who according to one of the suspects contracted the killing.

Immediately after the murder, Police Chief Manuel Castro Castillo speculated that it was a contract killing, but the official conclusion announced shortly after was that the crime was a robbery gone wrong. Recently, one of the accused phoned a leading TV show and said he would release the name of a leading politician unless he is relocated to a Santo Domingo jail.

The widow made the statements after visiting Dominguez Brito accompanied by her lawyer Candido Simon Polanco. Gutierrez works as an assistant prosecutor at the Children and Teenagers Court in the province of Juan Sanchez Ramirez (Cotui) where the crime was committed.

“We would like to know about the investigation and to be told what was discovered in the case of one of the accused who says that a politician in Cotui paid for the killing,” said lawyer Simon Polanco, speaking for the family.
